Oldsmobile muscle cars are very special indeed, and this perfect example is a fine as it gets, with 39,250 original miles, all numbers matching, all original sheet metal, beautifully restored to concours levels and heavily documented with a binder full of paperwork including the original GM of Canada build sheet. Assembled in Lansing, Michigan on February 23, 1968 and shipped to Roger Piorier Automotive in Tracy Quebec Canada, this spectacular 1968 Oldsmobile 442 Convertible barely even landed at the dealership when Mr. Gilles R. Lamothe rushed in to take delivery. Mr. Lamothe took possession of the 442 on March 2, 1968 and through impeccable care & maintenance, kept it in pristine original condition for 40 years! In 2008, the second owner imported the 442 back into the states where it underwent a top-notch, professional nut & bolt restoration, which readied it for its debut at the Oldsmobile Nationals in 2010. Of course, it took First Place honors at the Nationals and was tucked away in a climate-controlled garage. Wayne Carini, the star of ‘Chasing Classic Cars’ and his guys at F40 Motorsports acquired the car and brought it to auction, and now this jewel sits on our showroom floor. As it sits today, this 1968 Oldsmobile 442 Convertible is an absolute showpiece. The 100% rust-free original sheet metal is laser straight from front to back and from top to bottom. The factory correct (Code E) Nocturne Blue Metallic paint is perfect and looks like it’s a mile deep. All of the chrome, stainless trim, emblems, etc., is in show condition. When you slide into the original Parchment bucket seat interior w/ console, you will swear on your life that it’s 1968 all over again. It is simply perfect. The mint dash houses the optional Rally Gauge pack, which includes a tic-toc tachometer, and all of the gauges, lights, blinkers, power top, etc. work perfectly. Even the original AM Radio works nicely. All of the chrome accents are beautiful. The authentic wood-trimmed three spoke steering wheel w/ satin finish and red Oldsmobile rocket logo sits directly in front of you. You simply cannot find a finer original interior in a 1968 Oldsmobile 442. The fully restored trunk is correctly outfitted with fresh spatter paint, a new houndstooth mat and correct spare tire & deck lid decals. Pop open the hood and nestled inside the beautifully detailed engine bay is the original numbers matching 400 ci Rocket V8 which was completely rebuilt and dynos @ 405 hp with 467 lb./ft. torque (dyno sheets included). Of course, it carries the correct 396026G casting number as well as the correct 38M279964 partial VIN. The original numbers matching 400 ci engine is linked to the original numbers matching Muncie M21 4-Speed transmission, which of course carries the ’68 exclusive 3925660 casting number and the correct 38M279964 partial VIN. This potent engine/transmission combo sends power to the original asphalt shredding O Type Posi-traction rear end w/ 3.42 gears. She starts, idles, runs, drives, steers and brakes beautifully and is a blast to drive. You want to talk about TORQUE! This 442 runs super strong and will snap your neck back when you go through the gears. Of course the factory power steering and factory power disc brakes makes driving effortless. Again, this is a 39,250 original mile car and you can really feel it. You can tell right away that it was never abused at all, and there are no rattles, squeaks or any other annoying noises. There are no vibrations in the steering wheel and she’s as solid as a rock. She’s got the perfect stance as she sits on original 14” Oldsmobile Super Stock II wheels and correct F70-14 Firestone Wide Oval Sport tires.
