1969 Mercury Cyclone 428 Cobra Jet Ram-Air

SOLD!

If you are a collector of rare Ford muscle cars, then the car you are looking at right now should put a huge smile on your face!

‘Red Hills Rods & Classics’ is very happy to offer you this absolutely gorgeous, numbers-matching, and heavily documented 1969 Mercury Cyclone 428 Cobra-Jet Ram Air! This is such a cool car! The 1969 Mercury Cyclone Cobra Jet exists in the shadows of today’s muscle-car world. Not nearly as recognizable as its Ford sibling, the Torino Cobra, or its Mopar rivals, the Dodge Super Bee and Plymouth Road Runner, the Cyclone CJ is somewhat forgotten today, which in my humble opinion, makes it that much cooler! The Cyclone CJ is the archetypal muscle car of the era, a big V8 engine in a mid-size coupe, but only a handful of enthusiasts really know about them. The fastback body design looks absolutely amazing, and the lines of the car are exquisite.

This beautiful example was sold new @ Preston Motor Company in Nashville, TN., where its first owner, Mr. C.M. Briley took delivery. She left the factory loaded w/ desirable options, such as Dark Aqua Metallic Paint (Code F), Black Knit Vinyl Bucket Seats, 428ci Cobra-Jet engine, Ram-Air Induction, C6 Merc-O-Matic Transmission, GT Appearance Group, 3,00 Traction-Lok Differential, Power Steering, Power Front Disc Brakes, Center Console, Tachometer, Whisperaire Air Conditioning, AM/FM Stereo Radio, Tinted Glass, and Heavy-Duty Battery. According to the Deluxe Marti Report, this 1969 Cyclone CJ is a (1) of (1) as optioned. According to the party that we purchased this car from, she only has 6,865 original miles on the clock, and by looking at the car, we absolutely believe them. A rotisserie restoration was completed several years back, including a professional repaint in its factory original color of Dark Aqua Metallic w/ Black Hood Stripes. All of the chrome and stainless-steel trim was completely restored and looks beautiful all around. During the restoration, a factory correct head light dimmer was mounted on the driver-side fender, which adds a nice little touch. The car has a perfect stance, and rolls on 15” Magnum 500 wheels, wrapped w/ new B.F. Goodrich TA radial tires (P275/60/R15 on the rear & P215/65/R15 up front). The undercarriage is beautifully detailed, featuring body-colored floors, rocker panels, pinch welds, new fuel tank, new brake & fuel lines, steering components, independent front suspension, etc. Please look closely at the photos to see how clean the undercarriage is.

Open the driver’s door and you will find a beautiful Black Knit Vinyl Bucket Seat interior that looks just like it did back in 1969. The black bucket-seats, door panels, center console, shifter, etc. are all in beautiful original condition, and the woodgrain dash inserts are excellent. All of the original gauges, lights, blinkers, AM/FM radio, etc., are in excellent working condition, and the factory air conditioning blows nice & cold. Overall, the interior is in excellent original condition throughout. The trunk area is beautiful, and features correct trunk mat, original spare wheel, Goodyear F70-14 spare tire, and jack assembly.

Now, let’s get to the good stuff, shall we?

Pop open the hood and you’ll find the original numbers-matching 428ci Cobra-Jet motor w/ its factory original Ram-Air components, topped w/ a Holley 4150 4V carburetor, and the partial VIN stamped on the back of the block. The motor is linked to the original numbers matching C6 Merc-O-Matic transmission, which feeds power to the Ford 9” 3.00 Traction-Lok rear end in a nodular iron case. She fires up instantly, settling into a nice smooth idle, and she runs, drives and performs beautifully in every way. She also sounds excellent, due to the custom Magnaflow dual exhaust system. The factory power steering & power disc brakes make driving around town effortless, and when you get her out on the freeway, she tracks straight & true. What I really appreciate is the lack of squeaks, rattles, or unwanted noises, which is quite rare for these cars. She just drives so nicely! As we all know, bulletproof documentation is everything when it comes to collector cars, and this one does not disappoint. Original documentation includes: original build sheet (partial), original Ford Ownercard, original owner’s manual, previous bills of sale, previous registrations, 428 Cobra-Jet engine spec sheets, and of course, the framed Elite Marti Report.

Considering its wonderful condition, the original drivetrain, and outstanding documentation that shows it is a (1) of (1) car as optioned, we think you'll agree that this gorgeous 1969 Mercury Cyclone 428 Cobra-Jet Ram Air car is an investment grade American classic, through & through!
