We have all heard the old saying “They just don’t make them like they used to”, and that especially goes for classic American automobiles. If you have been searching for a classic American convertible that can win awards at your local car shows, but also one that can be driven & enjoyed to the fullest, well then I think we have just the car for you!
‘Red Hills Rods & Classics’ is very happy to offer you this absolutely beautiful 1969 Oldsmobile Ninety Eight Convertible! This wonderful automobile has been w/ the same family since 1971, and recently underwent a multi-year restoration to bring it back to all its glory. It now sits on our showroom floor here in St. George, Utah, in absolutely beautiful condition. Finished in its factory correct color combination of Trophy Blue wrapped around a light blue bench seat interior, a short list of options includes: original 455ci motor, TH400 automatic transmission, power steering, power front disc brakes, power convertible top, power windows, 6-way power front bench seat, tilt/telescopic steering column, AM/FM 8-Track stereo, and more. The owner had quite a soft spot in his heart for this car, as it was purchased for his mother in 1971, and he actually learned how to drive in this exact car back in 1973. Years later, he acquired the car from his parent’s garage, and began using it as a daily driver in Arizona & Nevada. The car has always been in dry climate areas, so it is 100% rust-free throughout. In the early 2000’s, he parked the car in his Nevada garage and was finally able to start a complete restoration about five years ago. The final results are quite impressive, as all of the work was performed by the owner and his good friend who is a lifelong ‘ASE Certified’ GM technician. A photo album depicting the various stage of work performed will go with the car.
The bodywork was done beautifully w/ excellent panel alignment and body gaps. The factory correct Trophy Blue paint was recreated in a modern clearcoat, and has a beautiful lustrous shine throughout. All of the chrome and stainless-steel trim is in excellent condition as well. The correct T3 headlights light up the road, while all other exterior lights were refitted w/ LED bulbs, which are much brighter. Reproduction parts for the top were acquired from Hydro-E-Lectric in Florida, which includes the new white vinyl convertible top w/ glass rear window, hydraulic rams, pump motor, lines, switch, and header bow. It functions perfectly going up and/or down. All rubber and felt pieces are new on the windows, doors, decklid, top, headliner, and the inner fender splash guards. The front end was completely rebuilt w/ all new parts, including wheel bearings, tie-rod ends, upper & lower ball joints, idler arm, and upgraded front disc brakes, which were newly available on the 1970 model. This beautiful convertible sits on 15” wheels w/ wire hubcaps, wrapped w/ Coker American Classic whitewall tires. The wire hubcaps are from a 1974 Oldsmobile, but the original hubcaps will go w/ the car. You can walk around this beautiful convertible a hundred times and it looks absolutely stellar from every single angle.
Pop open the driver’s door and you will find a beautiful light blue vinyl/cloth bench seat interior that really takes you back to the ‘good old days’. The seats were reupholstered in the original light blue vinyl w/ matching door panels, and cloth was added to the seats for extra comfort. The original dash (uncracked) is still in place, and the tilt/telescopic steering column was completely rebuilt. The power windows and 6-way power seat were disassembled & cleaned, and the tracks were relubricated and reassembled w/ new rollers & guides. New parts from ‘Fusick Automotive’ include the rearview mirror w/ map light, door & ignition locks, rear fuel door, cap & fuel sending unit. The interior was also refitted w/ LED lightbulbs throughout. All of the gauges, lights, blinkers, AM/FM radio, etc., are in perfect working order w/ the exception of the 8-track player. The interior is absolutely beautiful, extremely comfortable, as well as fully functional, and the trunk was nicely restored to original w/ the correct felt carpeting, headboard liners, and Oldsmobile rubber mat.
Pop open the hood, and residing inside the tidy engine bay you will find the original 455ci V8 motor lathered in Oldsmobile red paint. The motor was completely rebuilt, bored 60-over, w/ a mild RV camshaft. Every moving or wearable part was replaced during the rebuild. The carburetor is a later model, fully rebuilt Rochester Quadrajet, and the original ‘points’ style distributor was upgraded w/ an HEI Distributor for efficiency. Other upgrades include a new power brake booster, master cylinder, and Hayden 4-row radiator. The motor is linked to a completely rebuilt TH400 automatic transmission, which shifts beautifully and incorporates the new speedometer system previously driven by the front wheels. She fires up instantly, settling into a nice smooth idle, and she runs, drives & performs beautifully in every way. This Olds 98 Convertible is an absolute blast to drive and gets a ton of attention anywhere you go. The new owner will receive the original owner’s manual, (2) photo albums of restoration photos, and lots of original parts, including the original hubcaps.
Again, if you have been searching for a classic Oldsmobile convertible that can win awards at your local car shows, but also one that can be driven & enjoyed to the fullest, you will want to take a very close look at this beautiful 1969 Oldsmobile Ninety Eight Convertible!
