For American classic car collectors, what we are offering here could be considered the Holy Grail, especially to all of you Chevrolet muscle car fanatics!
‘Red Hills Rods & Classics’ is extremely proud to offer you this absolutely gorgeous & heavily documented 1969 Chevrolet Yenko Camaro L72 427/425 Double COPO car. In 1967, world-renowned Chevrolet performance dealer, Don Yenko, followed his original plan, which was to take an assembly-line Camaro equipped w/ a 4-speed transmission, power disc-brakes, aluminum 4-core radiator and heavy-duty suspension, and pack it with an L72 427/425hp engine. These cars would feature front & rear spoilers, special ducted hood, ‘Yenko 427’ badges, special striping down the hood & side, and ‘SYC’ identification (Yenko Super Car) on the headrests. For 1969, the dealership worked w/ Chevrolet to have the L72 engines installed on the factory assembly line using a ‘Central Office Production Order’ (COPO), and the order included power disc-brakes, front & rear spoilers, special ducted hood, 4.10 Positraction rear end (gears heat treated for strength), dual exhaust, larger front sway bar, and a heavy-duty 4-core radiator for increased cooling capacity. Buyers had the option of either the Muncie M-21 4-speed transmission or the TH400 automatic transmission. A total of only (201) of these cars were produced in 1969: (171) w/ 4-speeds and (30) w/ the automatic transmissions. These cars were specifically built for drag-racing purposes, and there is no mistaking these YSC Camaros for anything else on the road.
Originating from Yenko Chevrolet in Canonsburg, PA. then dealer transferred to Jack Douglass Chevrolet in Hinsdale, IL., this particular car, YS 9635, is a rare Double COPO, including COPO # 9561 which are the options previously mentioned, as well as COPO # 9737, which is the ‘Sports Car Conversion Package’. This package loaded the Camaro up w/ 15″ Rally wheels, E70-15 Goodyear Wide-Oval tires, a larger sway bar, and a 140-mph speedometer. This car was previously owned by noted Yenko Camaro collector Gary Holub, and has been verified & documented by Jerry MacNeish @ Camaro High-Performance, as well as the COPO Connection. It underwent a complete rotisserie restoration and now sits on our showroom floor here in St. George, Utah, in absolutely gorgeous condition throughout.
Finished in its factory correct shade of Rallye Green w/ Black Stripes, and a Black Vinyl Top, this Yenko Camaro is absolutely stunning in appearance! The Rallye Green paint is in excellent condition w/ a brilliant shine throughout, and all of the chrome, stainless-steel trim, emblems, etc., are in excellent condition as well. She sits on original 15”x7” Rallye wheels wrapped w/ Firestone F70-15 Wide-Oval tires. You can circle around this car a hundred times and it looks perfect from every angle. The undercarriage is about as nice as the top side of the car, restored to look like it just rolled off of the Yenko Chevrolet showroom floor. Please look at the undercarriage photos to see how nicely everything was done.
Open the driver’s door and you’ll find a perfect black vinyl bucket-seat interior, featuring Yenko’s trademark ‘SYC’ headrest stitching, Hurst shifter, AM Radio, large Stewart-Warner Green-Line tachometer, Stewart-Warner auxiliary gauges under the dash, and black carpeting from front to back. It is a very special feeling sitting in a Yenko Camaro, w/ your right hand firmly gripping the Hurst shifter, while staring out over that long ducted hood. In the trunk you will find the correct 15”x7” spare Rallye wheel, Firestone F70-15 Wide Oval spare tire, and original jack assembly.
Pop-open the hood and nestled inside the beautifully detailed engine bay resides the 427/425hp L72 motor lathered in Chevy orange paint w/ chrome valve covers, and topped w/ a Winters high-rise intake manifold & Holley 800cfm carburetor. The #512 block wears the suffix code T0207MN, w/ casting date C59. The motor is linked to a Muncie M21 4-speed transmission (code P9B17B), which feeds power to the original 12-bolt positraction rear axle (BE0305G2, casting date B249 ‘860NF’ housing). She fires up instantly, settling into a nice smooth idle, and she runs, drives & performs beautifully in every way. If you have never driven an L72 powered Camaro, then you are in for one heck of an experience! I have found that some of these cars look great but don’t perform as advertised, but this car will simply blow you away! It is brutally fast w/ loads of power & torque that will pin you back in your seat, and the factory power steering and power disc-brakes make driving around town effortless. This is an amazing car in every way, period!
Again, this car has been inspected & verified by Jerry MacNeish and the COPO Connection, and is listed in the Yenko Registry. The VIN on the dash, on top of the cowl, behind the heater box, under the rear passenger seat, driver-side dashboard bracket, etc. have all been confirmed & verified. It is a very well-known car in the COPO/Yenko circles and was owned by Gary Holub, a noted Yenko Camaro collector. The new owner will receive a binder full of documentation, certificates of authenticity, body number verifications, title history, bills of sale, etc.
If you have been searching for a blue-chip collector-grade American muscle car to add to your portfolio of investments, this gorgeous 1969 Chevrolet Yenko Camaro L72 427/425 Double COPO fits the bill!
