We search for what seems like a lifetime for certain cars that take us back to a particular time & place when Detroit’s muscle cars ruled the streets, or perhaps a certain car that your big brother drove and that you admired greatly. It was an era that can never be repeated and only lives inside our souls. This absolutely gorgeous, all numbers matching 1971 Pontiac Trans Am 455 HO 4-Speed car is one of those cars! For anyone who has been searching for one of these ultra-rare TA’s, you know how impossible they are to find. How about finding one that still has its original numbers matching 455 HO engine, original numbers matching Muncie M22 4-Speed transmission, original numbers matching 3.42 Safe-T-Track rear axle, and all of its original sheet metal? Most people would say nearly impossible! Well today is your lucky day my friends because you are looking at that car! This absolutely gorgeous 1971 Pontiac Trans Am 455 HO 4-Speed car recently underwent a no-expense spared frame-off, nut & bolt restoration that would set you back 100K! This Trans Am was built at the Van Nuys California plant and was sold new @ Mel Rapton Pontiac in Sacramento California who is still in business and going strong. The all-original sheet metal, which is 100% rust-free, can be attributed to the fact that the car spent almost its entire life in California. She left the factory finished in Cameo White w/ Blue Interior and with the 455 HO motor, Muncie M22 4-Speed Transmission, 3.42 Safe-T-Track Rear Axle, Front Console, Push-Button Delco AM/FM Radio, and of course Power Steering & Power Brakes. No frills and no gimmicks, just 335 hp and 480 Lbs./Ft. Torque that will get you from stoplight to stoplight in a hurry! This was certainly one of the cars to have in 1971, because not only were they extremely quick but they handled much better than any other American made muscle car of that era. As I stated earlier, they are nearly impossible to find, especially one of the (885) cars that were built with the M22 4-Speed transmission. Again, the frame-off restoration was performed at the highest level with only NOS / OEM parts used when needed. The original sheet metal is laser straight all of the way around the car and the correct Cameo White paint is flawless, as are the blue stripes. The undercarriage was finished in the factory correct black oxide as was used @ the Van Nuys plant. All of the paint daubs, chalk marks and factory hangtags are in place. Slide into the gorgeous blue bucket seat interior and you will swear that it’s 1971 all over again. Simply put, it is flawless! All new seats, door panels and carpeting are combined with the original reconditioned dash & console. All original gauges including tachometer, clock, lights, blinkers, etc., work perfectly. Even the factory Delco AM/FM radio sounds great and the lighter pops out hot! Again, everything works properly. Pop open the hood and nestled inside the beautifully detailed engine bay resides the original numbers matching 455 HO motor. Not only is the motor original to the car, but the carburetor, heads, alternator, water pump, master cylinder, manifolds, etc. are ALL original to the car. The original numbers matching 455 HO motor is linked to the original numbers matching Muncie M22 4-Speed transmission which feeds power to the original drive shaft & original 3.42 Safe-T-Track rear axle. This cars starts, runs, drives steers and brakes perfectly in every way and is an absolute blast to drive! I promise that when you press your right foot to the floor, you will feel all of the 480 Lbs./Ft. Torque as the functional Shaker Hood pops open and you will be firmly planted into your seat. The engine has been tuned and the front end has been aligned for maximum enjoyment. This Trans Am is absolutely awesome in every sense of the word! She sits on original 15” Honeycomb wheels and F60-15 Goodyear GT Polyglas tires just like she did 41 years ago. All of the numbers on this TA have been verified and the history of the car is completely traced back to being built during the GM strike of 1971. All date codes, authentication letters, etc., all match and are correct for the build date of this incredible Trans Am. The full PHS documentation, Owner’s Manual, before & after Restoration Photo Book, Original Service Manuals, etc., will all go to the new owner.
