1973 Ford Mustang 351 Convertible

$67,500

If you have ever wondered what it would have been like to buy a brand-new ’73 Mustang Convertible off of the showroom floor, we truly believe that this amazing example will get you as close as you will ever get!

‘Red Hills Rods & Classics’ is proud to offer you this absolutely gorgeous, all numbers-matching, concours restored 1973 Ford Mustang 351 Convertible! We acquired this very special Mustang from Colin Comer, who is a world renown Shelby Mustang & Shelby Cobra aficionado. Colin has restored Ford & Shelby Mustangs for almost 40 years, and he has authored many award-winning books on Shelby Mustangs, Shelby Cobras, and American muscle cars in general. When folks ask him what the difference is between a ‘driver’ quality restoration and an ‘MCA Division 1’ restoration such as this car received, his response is simple: About $100,000. And the fact is, in most cases you simply cannot acquire the ‘real’ Ford parts to do restorations of this type anymore.

This ’73 Mustang Convertible received a 4-year concours restoration performed by one of the finest Mustang restoration experts in the hobby. The starting point was a spectacular, 22k original-mile, original numbers-matching, and all original sheet metal car, that had never seen a speck of rust. I can’t stress enough the extreme efforts that were taken to use exclusively original NOS Ford parts throughout, to achieve MCA Division 1 standards. This is not some blister-pack Scott Drake reproduction restoration, but rather a concours restoration using genuine Ford parts right down to the consumable ‘service’ items such as filters, hoses, exhaust, etc. I honestly don’t think that a restoration such as this could be duplicated today. The supply of assembly line (‘lunch pail’) and NOS Ford parts was extremely slim when this car was restored 10-years ago, and virtually non-existent today, no matter how much you’re willing to pay. As an example, how many properly dated NOS spark plug wire sets have you seen for a 1973 Mustang? How about the trim, or chrome, or lug nuts? As mentioned, there were no blister pack, almost-Ford parts used on this car. It’s all Ford, all the way!

This is a truly gorgeous Mustang, in a limited ‘Special Spring’ color called Glow Gold (Code 6F), and she had all of the right boxes checked. The body & paint are beyond exceptional in every way, w/ perfect panel fit & body gaps, and it looks as though the restoration was done last week! The white convertible top is as new, and is most likely the only aftermarket part on this car. The Ginger Knit-Vinyl Bucket Seat interior (Code CF) looks like it did when it was sold new 51 years ago @ Dee Thomason Ford in Lake Oswego, Oregon. All of the original gauges, lights, blinkers, AM radio, 8-track player, seat-belt warning light, everything is in perfect working order. Whoever ordered this car knew their way around an order sheet, so please note the options list on the Marti Report. Factory options include: 351 Cleveland V8 Motor, C-6 Automatic Transmission, Instrumentation & Convenience Groups, Power Steering, Power Brakes, Tilt Steering Wheel, Power Windows, Factory AM Stereo w/ 8-Track Player, Intermittent Wipers, Color-Keyed Racing Mirrors, etc. As for the lack of air conditioning, well, she does have 360-degree AC when the top is down, and remember it was delivered new to Lake Oswego, Oregon, which has characteristically very dry and mild weather.

Again, mechanically it retains its complete original numbers-matching drivetrain, and the car has been thoroughly sorted out to perform 100% as new in all respects. Hop in, fire it up, pop in your favorite 8-track tape and burn rubber! Every component is comprehensively restored, for example, all of the window motors, tracks, and rollers are rebuilt, re-plated, installed with all Ford hardware and rollers, and even the proper ‘tan’ grease that is looked for in judging. Brake hoses, shoes, pads, springs, – all N.O.S Ford. I think that you get the idea! This is most likely the finest and most correct 1973 Ford Mustang Convertible in the country, and would be the ultimate summertime cruiser!

The new owner will receive the original Owner’s Manual, original 1973 Ford Shop Manuals Volumes 1 thru 5, original 1973 Owner Maintenance & Light Repair Manual, original 1973 Ford Mustang Dealership Brochure, original 1973 Exterior Color Chart, a framed 1973 Mustang Banner, as well as the free & clear title.

Again, if you have ever wondered what it would have been like to buy a brand-new Ford Mustang Convertible off of the showroom floor back in 1973, we truly believe that this amazing 22k original mile example is as close as you will ever get!
